Chestnut Grove Cemetery - West Chester, Pennsylvania
Garfield Avenue & E. Gay Street
West Chester, Pennsylvania
Chestnut Grove Cemetery was formed around 1862. It was known as a cemetery for "colored people," according to: "West Chester Past And Present: Centennial Souvenir With Celebration Proceedings," authored by the staff of the Daily Local News in 1899.
This same book describes how Chestnut Grove Annex Cemetery was formed in 1895 to serve the same demographic.
During my visit to Chestnut Grove Cemetery, I found the grounds to be minimally maintained.
